First off, if you’re not caught up on Orange is the New Black, you might want to skip this one because it involves a major season 2 spoiler.
Now that that’s out of the way, while talking to Danielle Brooks at SXSW for her new film I Dream Too Much, she took a brief moment to discuss what we can expect to see from Taystee in the new season:
“Taystee is still on her path of maturity and so I feel like every season she’s a little different, which is beautiful for an actor, for your character to have more depth every time, especially in such a big cast. But she definitely takes on another role this season, which I was a little nervous to do.”
If you caught the final episode of season 2, “We Have Manners. We’re Polite,” you know things don’t end well for Taystee’s adoptive mother, Vee (Lorraine Toussaint). Odds are she’s dead after getting mowed down by Rosa (Barbara Rosenblat) in Morello’s (Yael Stone) van, but will Vee’s actions have a lingering effect on the remaining inmates at Litchfield this season? Here’s what Brooks said when asked if Vee is long gone:
“She’s definitely not long gone. I wouldn’t say she’s long gone at all.”
I also had the opportunity to talk a little Orange is the New Black with Natasha Lyonne while discussing her SXSW official selection, Fresno, but her response regarding what’s to come was a bit more general:
“I mean, the show is just great. It just keeps getting deeper and heavier and more complicated and it’s just endless.”
I’ll leave it at that, but be sure to check out the video clip below with Lyonne’s full answer because it’s pretty amusing. Plus, why not have an episode of OITNB guest starring Judy Greer and Aubrey Plaza that’s directed by Jamie Babbit? We’ll have the full interviews for I Dream Too Much and Fresno coming soon.
