MORTAL KOMBAT Screenwriter Oren Uziel to Adapt FORGOTTEN Starring Hailee Steinfeld

     October 27, 2011

Screenwriter Oren Uziel has signed on to write the adaptation of Cat Patrick‘s recent sci-fi novel ForgottenHailee Steinfeld is set to star as a 16-year-old who loses her memory at 4:33 every morning, but she can still remember the events from her future.  It’s a neat premise although I will be in no way surprised if there’s a scene where she flunks a test but she remembered she was going to flunk it.  No director is currently attached, but the book was picked up by Paramount back in February as a starring vehicle for the young Oscar-nominee. Steinfeld is also attached to a spec script based on Sleeping Beauty and she’s in talks to star in the Romeo & Juliet re-imagining, Rosaline.

Uziel has been on a hot streak lately.  He’s set to write the reboot of Mortal Kombat and his script The Kitchen Sink was picked up by Sony with  Jonah Hill set to direct.  Hit the jump for a synopsis of Cat Patrick’s Forgotten.  [THR]

Here’s the synopsis for Cat Patrick’s Forgotten:

Each night at precisely 4:33 am, while sixteen-year-old London Lane is asleep, her memory of that day is erased. In the morning, all she can “remember” are events from her future. London is used to relying on reminder notes and a trusted friend to get through the day, but things get complicated when a new boy at school enters the picture. Luke Henry is not someone you’d easily forget, yet try as she might, London can’t find him in her memories of things to come.

When London starts experiencing disturbing flashbacks, or flash-forwards, as the case may be, she realizes it’s time to learn about the past she keeps forgetting-before it destroys her future.
