Tony Plana Joins Michael Bay’s PAIN AND GAIN, Kelsey Chow Leads Indie Thriller RUN and C. Thomas Howell Joins the Indie Crime Drama MAGIC HOUR

Here is today’s casting call round-up. Check out the new additions at a glance below:

  • Tony Plana (Ugly Betty) is the latest to join director Michael Bay’s low-budget passion project, Pain and Gain.
  • Disney XD’s Pair of Kings star, Kelsey Chow, has landed the female lead in the indie thriller, Run.
  • C. Thomas Howell (The Outsiders) has joined the indie crime drama, Magic Hour.

Via Variety, we’ve learned that Plana is the latest addition to Pain and Gain, a project based on the real-life exploits of a group of bodybuilders in Miami that ran an extortion racket that escalated into kidnapping and murder. The film currently stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson in the lead roles, with a supporting cast of Ed Harris, Rob Corddry, Anthony Mackie, Tony Shaloub and Bar Paly. Plana will star as Captain Al Lopez of the Miami Police Department, who investigates the kidnapping of Marc Schiller (Shaloub) at the request of private investigator, Ed Du Bois (Harris). run-kelsey-chowAlso from Variety, comes the casting news of Chow in the indie thriller, Run. The picture stars William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia) as a Parkour expert who must decided between continuing a life as a street-smart thief or settling down with his girlfriend (Chow). The film, written and directed by Simone Bartesaghi (Downstream) also stars Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) and Adrian Pasdar (Heroes). Chow will next be seen in this summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Co-starring in The Amazing Spider-Man will be C. Thomas Howell, who has recently landed a role in the indie crime drama, Magic Hour. Per Variety, the picture follows a young man’s associations with the local crime family of Venice Beach in the 1990s. Production will wrap at the end of the month after shoots in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Anaheim.
