First Clip for PARKLAND Features Zac Efron, Mark Duplass and Marcia Gay Harden

     September 6, 2013

The first clip from writer-director Peter Landesman’s JFK assassination drama Parkland is now available.  It features Zac Efron as doctor Jim Carrico, who is shocked to see the President wheeled in on a stretcher as a Secret Service agent (Mark Duplass) and attending nurse Doris Nelson (Marcia Gay Harden) look to Carrico to save him.  While parts of the recently-released trailer looked promising, I was a bit concerned with some of the forced dialogue and hammy performances.  Unfortunately, this clip seems to highlight those weaknesses so perhaps it wasn’t the strongest choice as an introduction for potential audiences.

Hit the jump to watch the clip.  The film also stars Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob ThorntonJacki WeaverJames Badge DaleJackie Earle HaleyRon LivingstonColin HanksTom WellingJeremy Strong, and David Harbour.  Parkland opens October 4th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Parkland:

Recounting the chaotic events that occurred in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, Parkland weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas’ chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most watched and examined film in history; the FBI agents who nearly had the gunman within their grasp; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK’s security team, witnesses to both the president’s death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson’s rise to power over a nation whose innocence was forever altered.
