‘Preacher’: See the First Footage from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Striking AMC Series

     October 30, 2015

The first trailer for the highly anticipated TV adaptation of Garth Ennis’ graphic novel Preacher will debut Sunday, November 11th during a special extended episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead, but the network has released a brief teaser to tide fans over, and boy does it look freaking great. Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger) stars as Jesse Custer, a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do what he says.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg first brought the adaptation to AMC, and they’ve teamed up with Breaking Bad alum Sam Catlin to fully realize the series. Rogen and Goldberg serve as executive producers and co-wrote and directed the pilot, while Catlin is the series’ showrunner. This is but a very brief tease of footage, but it appears that they’re not holding back in terms of violence and stark imagery. This is a significant departure for Rogen and Goldberg as filmmakers following their comedic turns with This Is the End and The Interview, but the duo is nothing if not ambitious and I’m really looking forward to seeing how Preacher comes together.

As for the graphic nature of the series, if The Walking Dead has taught us anything, it’s that you can get away with insanely graphic violence on cable television as long as it involves something supernatural (or, in Hannibal’s case, incredibly stylized/delicious). Rogen himself recently told us that he and Goldberg have enjoyed a healthy working relationship with AMC, with the network basically letting them do what they want.

As you await the full trailer on November 1st, check out the brief teaser below. Preacher also stars Jamie Anne Allman, Lucy GriffithsEuphrates “Tee” Arthur, W. Earl BrownThomas Barbusca, and Ian Colletti.
