PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES: Jack Huston on His Version of George Wickham

     July 18, 2015

Lily James, Bella Heathcote, Suki Waterhouse, Millie Brady and Ellie Bamber will be front and center as the Bennet sisters in Burr Steers’ big screen adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but there’s no doubt that their male co-stars will steal the spotlight here and there. We already shared my chat with the movie’s Mr. Collins, Matt Smith, and now it’s time to hear about Jack Huston’s rendition of George Wickham, the dashing solider with no morals.

During my one-on-one chat with Huston at San Diego Comic-Con, he talked about how Pride and Prejudice and Zombies brings something new to the character but still stays true to the Jane Austen classic, he discussed his experience working with Steers to ensure that they nail the tone of the film, recalled what it was like shooting his sword fight with Sam Riley and loads more. You can catch it all in the video interview below. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies hits theaters on February 5th, 2016.

Jack Huston:

  • 00:14 – Huston plays “Would You Rather.”
  • 03:00 – Huston’s Wickham isn’t the Wickham you know from previous renditions of Pride and Prejudice, but his version does respect the Jane Austen classic.
  • 04:06 – How his co-cast and surroundings affected the character.
  • 04:55 – Sticking to the script and playing it straight while Matt Smith served as the comedic relief.
  • 05:38 – Some sets can be boring places to sit around, but that wasn’t the case on PPZ.
  • 06:07 – Working with Burr Steers to nail the tone.
  • 06:55 – Maintaining an element of surprise, even for moviegoers who have read the book.
  • 07:35 – On his uncomfortable but becoming costume.
  • 08:15 – Shooting his sword fight with Sam Riley.
  • 09:03 – He’s seen the whole film and it’s “really, really good.”
  • 09:12 – They had a good time making this movie and he thinks it translates on screen.
  • 09:58 – Why did he drop out of The Crow?
