Russell Crowe Talks MAN OF STEEL Fight Scene

     October 19, 2011

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is now deep into production, as evidenced by the many, many set photos that have leaked to the interwebs. Today we don’t have any set photos, but Russell Crowe has let loose a possibly spoilery detail. The actor plays Jor-el (Superman’s biological father, for the nerd-deficient), and earlier today he tweeted about a fight scene that he’s been filming with a certain cast member. Details of the scene in question could be considered potential spoilers, so I’ll keep it clean here on the front page. Hit the jump for the details.

Russell-CroweApparently Jor-el will get into a scuffle with villain General Zod, played by Michael Shannon. Crowe tweeted the following:

“15km bike ride, umpteen hours fighting Michael Shannon. He’s very hard to put down. Hard to tell who wins, we are still fighting tomorrow.”

Could the fight be taking place on Krypton? Leaked pics of Crowe’s Jor-el costume revealed that he’ll be sporting some pretty cool alien garb, so one assumes most of his scenes take place on that planet. At this point it’s all speculation, but it’s pretty neat to know that Crowe will be going toe-to-toe with Shannon. The film also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, Ayelet Zurer, and Christopher Meloni. Man of Steel opens June 14th, 2013.

Here’s a possible synopsis for the film:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.
