First up from Deadline is word that Reynolds will join Mississippi Grind, apparently stepping in to replace Jake Gyllenhaal in the picture. The movie follows a gambler (Mendelsohn) in debt along a trip through the southern U.S. along with a young gambling addict (Reynolds), both hoping to change their luck. The two set off on a road trip through the South with visions of winning back what has been lost. Reynolds will next be seen opposite Jeff Bridges in R.I.P.D. and heard in DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo, both opening the week of July 17th.
Next via Variety, Edgerton is looking to co-star with Shannon in Nichols’ next project. Few details are available for the WB picture, except for the generic description of “a present-day sci-fi chase film.” Edgerton is currently filming the much-maligned production of Jane Got a Gun and was most recently seen in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.
Finally from Deadline is the news that Plummer will replace Caine in Imagine, a true story that centers on “an aging musician (Pacino) who is prompted by an old letter from John Lennon to give up his rockstar lifestyle and reconnect with the son (Cannavale) he has never met.” Garner stars as Pacino’s daughter-in-law, Bening plays his love interest and Plummer will now portray his longtime manager. Josh Peck also stars as a hotel valet who Pacino encourages to go after the girl of his dreams.
