Sally Hawkins Talks PADDINGTON, Working with Director Paul King, How Paddington Acted Like Ted Off Camera, and More

     January 17, 2015

I absolutely loved writer-director Paul King’s Paddington.  It’s one of those rare films that’s great for kids and adults alike, and I strongly encourage you to seek it out this weekend when the film hits theaters.  It’s absolutely worth your hard earned money.  If you’re not familiar with the film, the story centers on a bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) who is lost at Paddington Station in London, adopted by a kind family, and then sets out in search of an explorer who inspired his family to visit London years before.  The live-action cast includes Hugh BonnevilleSally HawkinsJulie WaltersJim Broadbent, and Peter Capaldi.  For more on Paddingtonwatch the trailerread Matt’s review, or check out all our previous coverage.

At the recent Los Angeles press day I landed an exclusive video interview with Sally Hawkins.  She talked about the great reviews, how Paddington acted like Ted during filming, what she learned about her character from the rehearsal process, Paul King, and a lot more.

Sally Hawkins:

  • Talks about the positive reviews
  • How off camera Paddington acted a lot like Ted.
  • How we need to see Ted and Paddington in a scene together.
  • What did she learn about her character from the rehearsal process?
  • Would she jump into a sequel?
