Joseph Gordon-Levitt and David S. Goyer Give SANDMAN Movie Update; Warner Bros. is “Very Happy” with the Script

     December 1, 2014

Last we heard about the big screen rendition of Sandman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was busy working on the script with David S. Goyer, Jack Thorne and the author behind the comic, Neil Gaiman.  There hasn’t been any movement on the project since, but it seems as though the group is still pushing to make it happen.

Not only did Gordon-Levitt confirm that meetings are taking place for the film during a Reddit AMA, but Goyer is also quoted as saying that Warner Bros. is “very happy” with the current draft of the script.  Hit the jump for more.

sandman-movieHere’s what Gordon-Levitt wrote when someone asked for a Sandman update on Reddit:

“Been doing a lot of work with David Goyer and Jack Thorne, working on the screenplay. We’ve been doing our meetings at the DC office, which is a frickin rad place to work. Also just had a great conversation last week with David and Mr. Gaiman. Neil has been extremely big hearted with me, and he’s the one I want to please most.”

The quote from Goyer comes from a Deadline article covering Goyer’s choice to hire Kevin Turen as president of his film and TV production company Phantom Four.  Turen will also be a producer on Sandman.  Here’s what Goyer had to say about the project:

“I hesitate to definitively say when it might go before the cameras, but the one thing different between other iterations and ours is that Neil Gaiman has been in the room with us and is a vital part of the team. We have a draft Warners is very happy with and we’re moving forward, knock on wood.”

Sandman has been around for quite a while and both Gordon-Levitt and Goyer have a lot going on right now, but it does sound like the project is in a good place so who knows?  Maybe Warner Bros. will finally give them the go-ahead soon enough.
