Joss Whedon, Robert Downey Jr., and Many More Need You to Save the Day

Whatever side of the political divide you fall on, there’s a good chance you’ll agree with me when I say that this has been a pretty bizarre election cycle. This week has seen Seth Meyers on Late Night and Samantha Bee on Full Frontal making their stance against Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump quite clear. Now, a new team of celebrities, not-so-famous celebrities, and ordinary citizens have banded together for the “Save the Day” campaign, a Super PAC supporting Hillary Clinton that encourages people to register and vote.

Joss Whedon himself directed this “Save the Day” video which features a “shit-ton” of A-list and other celebrities imploring people to register to vote and then to actually vote, not just for the office of the President, but for all elected positions. They’re clearly aligned against Trump, a stance which has backfired somewhat since it’s led to Trump supporters flooding the YouTube video’s comments section (as will probably be the case in our own comments section). But if you just want to see Robert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonMark RuffaloDon Cheadle and more under Whedon’s direction once again, it’s worth a watch.

Whedon actually returned to Twitter in order to promote this video, one in a series of comedy videos encouraging left-leaning groups to vote Clinton, as THR reports. His $1 million contribution and series of videos are aimed at increasing voter turnout from rural college-educated white women, black men and millennials. Here’s how Whedon describes his approach:

“It’s not about attacking because Donny’s real good at attacking himself. It’s about getting people to vote, because it’s frightening the apathy that people are treating the most crucial election of their lifetimes with.”

Whedon’s production team for this video series includes executive director Ben Sheehan (Funny or Die), and Carri Twigg, who formerly worked in the office of public engagement for Vice President Joe Biden, as head of media partnerships. This “Important” video is just the first in a planned 15-25 that will be released in the run-up to the election.
