Exclusive ‘She’s Just a Shadow’ Trailer Reveals a Gory and Glam Tokyo-Set Thriller

     May 15, 2019

Looking for a movie that’s dripping with blood, drenched with glitter, and dips into the dark criminal underworld? Take a peek at our exclusive trailer debut for She’s Just a Shadow, the new thriller from writer/director Adam Sherman (Crazy Eyes), that transports audiences to a “modern dreamlike” web of sex, drugs and gangsters with a flourish for the extreme with the intermingling tales of a serial killer, a matriarchal crime family, and a vicious gang war.

“This film kind of came out of madness”, said Sherman in a press release. “Inspired by “what ifs” with characters from my childhood like Snidley Whiplash, Nel Fenwick, and Dudley Do-Right maybe not showing up in time, my interests in forensic science, and real-life situations blown way out of proportion, the story just fell into place against the beautiful backdrop of Tokyo.”

Written, directed and produced by Sherman, who also produced Wristcutters: A Love Story and Larry Clark’s Marfa Girl films, She’s Just a Shadow stars The Wolverine and Batman v. Superman‘s Tao Okamoto (who also recently delivered a delightfully weird performance as Armistice’s Shogunworld counterpart in Westworld), alongside Haruka Abe (47 Ronin) and Loka pop star Kihiro in his acting debut. Breaking Glass Pictures will release the film in limited theaters and on VOD on July 19, 2019. Check out the trailer debut below.

Here’s the official synopsis for She’s Just a Shadow.

A beautiful Japanese madam. A deranged, drug-addled Tokyo gangster and his crew. A sadistic serial killer on the loose. The intersection of these stories, and the interior worlds of these characters, plays out against a dreamlike backdrop of ultra-violence and orgiastic sex as everyone tries futilely to rewrite their futures and cheat death. A dreamlike yet modern take on the gangster genre, SHE’S JUST A SHADOW is the action-packed story of a matriarchal crime family engaged in a vicious gang war, while a deranged killer is leaving his victims on railroad tracks all over Tokyo. The only thing more dangerous than the killer is the vicious love triangle within the family itself.
