Is This the First Poster for Sofia Coppola’s SOMEWHERE?

     June 11, 2010

I think Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere is near the top of the list of films coming out this year that I would like to know more about.  This poster doesn’t exactly shed any more light on the project, nor was it revealed in the most official of venues, but it works as a teaser poster for me.

Coppola’s follow up to 2006’s Marie Antoinette stars Stephen Dorff as “a bad-boy A-list actor stumbling through a life of excess,” interrupted by the unexpected arrival of his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning).  Hit the jump to see the poster.

sofia_coppola_04The poster was discovered on an unofficial Facebook page for Somewhere [via The Playlist].  But it features stars Dorff and Fanning poolside at what appears to my untrained eyes to be the “legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel” described in the synopsis.  And it sure seems to me like the image could have been framed in Coppola’s camera.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a bad-boy A-List actor stumbling through a life of excess while living at Hollywood’s legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel.  His days are a haze of drinks, girls, fast cars and fawning fans.  Cocooned in this celebrity-induced artificial world, Johnny has lost all sense of his true self.  Until, that is, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) unexpectedly shows up and unwittingly begins to anchor him.  Johnny’s fragile connection to real life slowly revives in her presence. So when the time comes fro Cleo to leave, his sense of loss is palpable, but the gift of hope she has also brought him leads to a beautiful, poetic denouement imbued with all of Coppola’s remarkable powers to conjure mood and atmosphere.
