LeBron James Hopeful for “Great Things” in ‘Space Jam 2’

     August 14, 2015

When LeBron James signed a deal recently with Warner Bros. Entertainment for original film, TV, and digital content, it followed that a Space Jam sequel was likely going to be a focus of the agreement. Now, despite no official confirmations or definitive statements from anyone involved in the project for weeks, James is at least talking about the sequel as if it’s a go. Of course there are no details on the film’s plot or which characters would be included, but at least it’s a start.

Today asked James for his thoughts on starring in a follow-up film to the 1996 live-action/animated hybrid comedy that famously starred Michael Jordan alongside the Looney Toons characters. Here’s what he had to say:

“We hope so. We’re definitely missing Bugs and Daffy and Tasmanian Devil and every last one of them, so hopefully we can do some great things.”

Yeah, not much to go on except to say that James is clearly aware that both his fans and fans of the original Space Jam are anxious to hear any updates on the project. James also has other Hollywood aspirations beyond reuniting with Bugs Bunny & Company. After starring alongside Bill Hader and Amy Schumer in Trainwreck, James appears to have caught the acting bug:

“It’s a passion of mine. Everything I do, I have a passion about it. If we could continue it, I know I don’t have to dribble a basketball and fly through the air to do those type of things.”

Let’s hope that James’ success continues both on the hardcourt and off of it. And for fans of Space Jam, that at least the rumored sequel gets off the ground. You can watch the full interview with James from Today below:
