Flashback: Watch George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese Discuss the Future of Movies in 1990

     August 20, 2013

George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese are three of the most influential filmmakers of all time, and they have been for quite a while.  In a fun little blast from the past, an old video has surfaced in which Lucas, Spielberg, and Scorsese discuss the future of the movies and their careers—in 1990.  The late, great Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel interviewed the three directors at the beginning of the 1990s to talk about what they saw coming for the next couple of decades, and it’s a fascinating watch.  Scorsese says he’s looking to make a period romance soon (that would be 1993’s Age of Innocence), Spielberg discusses having not made an adult movie (that would change after the failure of 1991’s Hook), and Lucas reveals that he’s working on a new Star Wars trilogy that would take place before the events of the original films.

Hit the jump to check out the 48-minute video, which is most definitely worth a watch if only to see Spielberg’s strange hairstyle choice.
