‘Stan Against Evil’ Trailer Finds John C. McGinley Fighting a Legion of Witches

Though they’ve yet to put up a halfway decent drama, IFC has been putting out some solid comedy programming over the years. The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret is arguably its most fruitful series, but Documentary Now! has quickly become something of a flagship program for the network known primarily for movies. The brilliant parody series is in the middle of its second season right now and is set for a few more seasons already, but IFC is making moves to expand on this good will and maybe fashion a few more great comedy series in the meantime.

One series that has a decent chance of doing that is Stan Against Evil, the latest series from Dana Gould, which focuses on the titular retired widower who is called on to protect his New Hampshire town when a legion of witches rises from the ground to wreak havoc. The show might have come off as a cheap reason to get a lot of gross deaths and light cursing on TV if not for the fact that Stan is played by John C. McGinley, the longtime character actor who became a household favorite when he started starring in Scrubs as J.D.’s mentor. McGinley is paired with Janet Varney, who plays the cop that’s replaced Stan as sheriff in the town, and from the looks of the new trailer, they’re going to make a hysterical team. Just how bloody all of this will turn out, however, is still unknown. Regardless, this is one that has more than a little promise.

You can check out the trailer below. The horror-comedy series will premiere on IFC on November 2nd.

Here’s the official synopsis for Stan Against Evil:

Stan Against Evil follows Stan Miller (McGinley), a perpetually disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town who was forced into retirement.  Stan has trouble relinquishing his authority to Evie Barret (Varney), the tough and beautiful new sheriff in town, but they form an unlikely alliance when both begin to realize things are not quite right in their quaint New England town.  Together, they valiantly fight a plague of unleashed demons that have been haunting the town, which just happens to be built on the site of a massive 17th century witch burning.
