Yesterday, in addition to a near-literal boatload of news about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, quite a few new images from the J.J. Abrams-directed sequel were released online as part of EW’s latest Fall Movie Preview. Well now those same images have landed online in high-resolution, so if you missed yesterday’s article or if you’d just like to see the same images in much higher clarity, you’re in luck.
But while we’re taking a closer look at the photos, it’s worth pointing out that while they may not be too “revealing” on the surface, they actually provide some fascinating insight into the movie. First of all, check out the practical effects-heavy focus on the image showing Daisy Ridley’s Rey. In many big-budget films nowadays, the entire creature behind her would be rendered in the computer. But in keeping with Abrams’ renewed focus on practical effects for the Star Wars franchise, everything seen there is real—and it shows.
Additionally, we get a really good look at C-3PO’s new red arm (what’s with Star Wars and all the limb-chopping, eh?), and a full body shot of Adam Driver’s nefarious Kylo Ren. And could that possibly be Simon Pegg’s character at the far right of the image in which Finn and Rey are running from Stormtroopers?
Anyway, take a look at the hi-res versions of the images below (via /Film). Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in theaters on December 18th and also stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Peter Mayhew, and Max von Sydow.
