Exclusive: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Teaser Poster to Premiere at STAR WARS Celebration

     April 6, 2015

Back in February, we reported that Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy were going to kick off Star Wars Celebration “in a big way.” We can now exclusively report that the kick off will involve the first poster and a new trailer.

While their premiere isn’t too surprising, it’s still nice that they’ll be sharing both with the many fans that will be attending. In fact, overflow theaters will be available so that plenty of attendees will be able to get a look at the poster and new trailer before anybody else. Although the new Force Awakens trailer will be attached to Avengers: Age of Ultron, it’s safe to assume that it will probably be appearing online sometime between April 16th and May 1st.

The question is how long will Disney wait to release the trailer after it premieres at Star Wars Celebration? They’ll do everything they can to crack down on piracy in those rooms, but it’s going to leak out somehow, so will Disney wait or will they release it online minutes after it premieres? I assume they’ll get it out ASAP because they want the rest of the world to see it in full, HD glory rather than risk a leak of shaky, grainy footage.

As for the teaser poster, I’ll be curious to see how they go. The Phantom Menace is an awful movie, but it has one of the all-time great teaser posters. It’s also important to keep in mind that art trends change. Here are the teaser posters for the original trilogy movies:

Jump forward to the late 90s-early 2000s and this is what poster art looks like for the Prequel Trilogy:

So now that we’re in the mid-2010s, what direction will they take? Will they go for a classic look? How heavily will it play on the Original Trilogy? Will there be lens flare? We’ll find out in less than two weeks.
