‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ – Anthony Daniels Wraps Filming as C-3PO

     January 29, 2019

star-wars-anthony-daniels-sliceProduction on Star Wars: Episode IX is winding down as we speak, with some of the major players wrapping their parts completely. Anthony Daniels, who has been under the golden suit as the robotic C-3PO since Star Wars first debuted in 1977, recently took to Twitter to announce his days on director J.J. Abrams‘ trilogy-capper are officially finito.

Star Wars: Episode IX doesn’t hit theaters until December 20, but woo boy is the lead-up to that one going to be immensely interesting. The reception to Rian Johnson‘s The Last Jedi essentially split an entire fandom in two like Laura Dern behind the wheel of a spaceship. Some came away thinking Johnson’s entry was a smart, nuanced take on the idea of mythology itself, while others found themselves in the camp that believes both Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy are actual hellspawn sent by Satan to destroy their childhood. (Plenty just either disliked or liked the film, I see you.)

Either way, Episode IX will put a cap on a Skywalker story that’s been going on for decades. The Last Jedi left off with our main crew—Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher, Oscar Isaac—alive but battered and on the run from Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order. It’ll be interesting to see how Abrams, never one to just, like, tell a story in a normal fashion, re-takes the reins he gave up after The Force Awakens. Plus, given Daniels’ Tweet, I wonder if they gave C-3PO another other to do than show up and be like, “Oh, bother.
