The Disneyland Resort is celebrating all things Star Wars with the debut of Season of the Force in Tomorrowland and some exciting new experiences that entertain fans of the famous film saga as they wait for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to open in theaters on December 18th and for the future Star Wars Land to be built in the Park. While the Disneyland Diamond Celebration for the Park’s 60th Anniversary and all of the special offerings for the holiday season are big draws themselves, Star Wars fans will get to be immersed in the galaxy far, far away, in a way they’ve never been able to before, and Collider was invited to a media preview to check out all of the goodies.
At its center is the interactive Star Wars Launch Bay in the Tomorrowland Expo Center. Once inside, you can interact with Darth Vader and Chewbacca, hear from the creative minds behind the saga, explore The Cantina, try out the latest video games, tour special galleries with props and costumes, and buy just about anything Star Wars-related.
In the Tomorrowland Theater, which uses 4D technology to strengthen the experience, you can see Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, which is a 10-minute film compilation that connects iconic scenes from all the films, with a tease for the next one. If you are a longtime fan, it’s a fun nostalgic reminder of why you fell in love with this saga in the first place. And if you are discovering it for the first time, you’ll get to see what all of the fuss is about.
Two big draws are sure to be the newly re-themed Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours – The Adventure Continues. The classic and always popular attraction Space Mountain has been re-imagined to put riders right in the middle of an action-packed battle between Rebel X-wings and Imperial TIE fighters, with a soundtrack of the films’ music. While the same turns and dips of the Space Mountain track are still there, it’s a cool, thrilling and exciting way to feel like you’re helping defeat the Dark Side.
Similarly, Star Tours has been updated to include a scene from the seventh installment in the franchise. While C3PO and R2D2 still bicker, as you go into hyper-drive to head to a desert planet, you now find yourself Jakku, the home of Rey (played by Daisy Ridley in The Force Awakens). Along with Rey, you will also get a glimpse of John Boyega’s Finn, as the ride now combines new and old, not only making you excited all over again for the upcoming film, but to also get on the ride again.
Attention is paid to every detail, with First Order stormtroopers patrolling the area, and an array of Star Wars-inspired food and beverages, in both the Galactic Grill and Pizza Port. One could easily spend a big chunk of their day at Disneyland exploring and interacting with the power of the Force.
