STAR WARS: EPISODE VII: New Set Photo Released; Gareth Edwards’ STAR WARS Spin-Off to Shoot in the United Kingdom

     June 11, 2014

Presumably, Star Wars: Episode VII set photos will be few and far between.  They’ll either be leaked, or J.J. Abrams will leave a note akin to something you would leave if someone was stealing your lunch from the refrigerator every day.  However, when you’re the United Kingdom’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, you have a bit more leeway to take a photo from the set and tweet it out to your followers.  Forget any other governmental powers he may have (and I truly don’t know because I can live my life in total ignorance of British government).  Being able to get an authorized photo off the set of Star Wars: Episode VII is true power.  Kudos, United Kingdom’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne for snapping a photo with producer Kathleen Kennedy, Abrams, and R2-D2.

Here’s the photo:

And here’s the full tweet:

Additionally, Osborne tweeted out the following:

Osborne is likely referring to Gareth Evans’ Star Wars spin-off since that will be the next Star Wars movie to go into production.  But to be fair, all of the Star Wars movies are going to shoot in the U.K.  The production is not moving to Hoboken or Wichita.  Pinewood Studios has the facilities and the history, and the U.K. has the tax incentives.  Barring some major blow-up (and maybe that’s not completely out of the question considering that the script was completely rewritten and Disney crunched the release date to 2015 against Abrams’ wishes), we can expect a galaxy far, far away to be located in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.

Going back to the photo, if you want to pick it over like it’s the Zapruder film, you’re more than welcome to.  As you’ll notice, the unfinished Millennium Falcon can be spotted in the back and to the left.  Back and to the left.  Back and to the left.
