It’s been far too long since we’ve had a good Star Wars: Episode VII rumor.  Today, we’ve learned of an intriguing plotline that may feature in the upcoming sequel.  So far, plot details have been practically non-existent as the search for a director continues.  However, screenwriter Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) was handling the screenplay, and presumably he had some direction from producers Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas, although Lucas says he “doesn’t really have much to do.”

Hit the jump to find out where the sequel might be headed.

“Yavin 4 and the rebel base return to the Star Wars plot in the forthcoming Episode VII, announced in October by the Walt Disney Co, in which Skywalker comes back to the planet to build a Jedi knight academy.”

I like this idea simply because it makes me think of a bunch of delinquent Jedis hanging around the galaxy, causing mischief until they have a place to go to school.  Then again, this notion of “When in doubt, add more Jedis” slightly backfired in Attack of the Clones when the result was nothing but a mess of lightsabers.

It’s worth noting that this plot strongly resembles the Jedi Academy trilogy of expanded universe novels written by Kevin J. Anderson.  It’s been speculated that the new movies will draw from the novels, so this isn’t completely unreasonable, although all of these rumors should be taken with as much salt as you can muster.

There was also the video game Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy where the player “takes the role of Jaden Korr, a new student arriving at Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy on Yavin IV.”

Unsurprisingly, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has commented on the rumor.
