This weekend, we received an overload of much-needed updates on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, including a new poster, an official announcement for tonight’s final trailer release, and a few teasers for said trailer. While we await the premiere of new footage with baited breath, which will debut during tonight’s Monday Night Football on ESPN, Lucasfilm also released details on an epic Star Wars movie marathon preceding The Force Awakens.
Much like how Disney and AMC hosted that mega Marvel movie marathon, screening each installment of the MCU prior to the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Wars is getting in on the game with its own marathon screening. Select theaters will participate in the Star Wars Marathon Event, screening each of the seven Star Wars films back-to-back. It all starts in digital 2D with The Phantom Menace, moves through the prequels into the original trilogy in the same format, and concludes with the opening of The Force Awakens in 3D. For a full list of participating theaters, click here.
Elsewhere, theater chains are offering some extra goodies to whet your Star Wars palettes, including collectible tickets, The Force Awakens art, RealD 3D Star Wars glasses, and more. Get the details below (via StarWars.com).
Star Wars Saturdays: Each Saturday, from December 19 to January 9, at Regal theatres the first 500 guests who experience Star Wars: The Force Awakens in IMAX will receive a collectable ticket featuring unique Star Wars: The Force Awakens art. New art will be revealed each week.
Star Wars Sundays: Each Sunday, from December 20 to January 10, guests who purchase a ticket to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens in IMAX 3D will receive an AMC-exclusive Star Wars print from artist Dan Mumford. A new poster will be revealed each week.
Also, join the celebration at Walt Disney World as AMC Theatres and Disney Parks celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Opening Night Event will take place on December 17, where participants will be among the first to see the new film at AMC Disney Springs 24 and then celebrate together at a private after-hours party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
