Kung-Fu Trailers for TAI CHI ZERO [Updated with Additional Bonus Trailer] and DRAGON, Starring Donnie Yen

     October 17, 2012

We’ve got a pair of kung-fu mash-up trailers for you today.  First up from the creators of Ip Man is a new trailer for Stephen Fung’s Tai Chi Zero, one that showcases a combo of traditional kung-fu accented by a steam-punk aesthetic and accompanied by dub-step.  The film stars Yuan Xiaochao, Angelababy, Tony Leung, Ka Fai and Shu Qi.  Tai Chi Zero opens stateside in limited release on October 19th.

In an Ip Man connection of sorts, the second trailer features star Donnie Yen in Dragon, a feudal kung-fu drama mashed up with a noir detective piece.  The Peter Ho-Sun Chan film also stars Takeshi Kaneshiro as a detective trying to uncover Yen’s characters secret past.  Dragon opens here in limited release starting November 30th.  Hit the jump for both trailers, synopses and posters.

Check out the crazy (and plot-devoid) trailer for Tai Chi Zero below.  Head over to Apple for HD:

Here’s a bonus trailer from Yahoo! because I liked them both so much:

Here’s the synopsis for Tai Chi Zero:

In legendary Chen Village, everyone is a martial arts master, and uses a powerful form of Tai Chi in all aspects of their life. Yang has arrived to try and learn it, only to find that it’s forbidden for the villagers to teach their secret style to an outsider. But when a mysterious man comes to town with a frightening steam-powered machine and plans to build a railroad through a village, the villagers realize they may have no choice but to put their faith in Yang, who has a secret power of his own. With action directed by the legendary Sammo Hung (Ip Man 1 & 2), Tai Chi 0 is a full-on steampunk kung-fu throw down that will knock you out of your seat.

The trailer for Dragon follows below.  You can watch it in HD over at Apple:

Here’s the synopsis for Dragon:

Liu Jin-Xi (Yen) is a village craftsman whose quiet life is irrevocably shattered by the arrival of two notorious gangsters in the local general store. When Liu single-handedly saves the shopkeeper’s life, he comes under investigation by detective Xu Bai-jiu (Kaneshiro). Convinced that Liu’s martial arts mastery belies a hidden history of training by one of the region’s vicious clans, Xu doggedly pursues the shy hero–and draws the attention of China’s criminal underworld in the process.
