TERMINATOR: GENISYS Sequels Get Release Dates; Paramount’s THE GAMBLER to Get Limited 2014 Run

Well, if Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions’ fifth installment in the rebooted Terminator franchise is going to bear the title Terminator: Genisys, then it’s certainly feasible that the film’s follow-ups could be called Terminator: Genisyx and Terminator: Geniseptem, right?  While the titles of the sixth and seventh films may be up for debate, their release dates have now been established.  To further confuse things, even though the fifth film comes out in 2015, the next two in the series won’t debut until 2017 and 2018.  And they’re being referred to as Terminator 2 and Terminator 3.  Oy.  Hit the jump for more details.

terminator-sequels-release-datesAs THR reports, here’s the current release date calendar for Paramount/Skydance’s Terminator reboots:

  • Terminator: Genisys – July 1, 2015
  • Terminator 2 (or 6) – May 19, 2017
  • Terminator 3 (or 7) – June 29, 2018

The plan is for the two sequels to film back to back, a plan which will likely hold true as long as the first film in the rebooted trilogy is a successful endeavor.  Alan Taylor directs Arnold Schwarzenegger in his return to the title role, along with Emilia ClarkeJai CourtneyJason ClarkeMatt SmithJ.K. SimmonsDayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.

In related release date news, Paramount will also give Rupert Wyatt’s crime drama The Gambler a limited run starting on December 19, 2014, which will then expand nationwide on January 1st.  It’s a classic tactic to position the film for awards contention, so we’ll see how it pans out.  Mark Wahlberg stars in Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan’s adaptation of James Toback’s 1974 novel by the same name; Brie LarsonMichael K. Williams and Jessica Lange also star.
