FX Orders Kurt Sutter’s THE BASTARD EXECUTIONER to Series

Sons of Anarchy may be over, but Kurt Sutter won’t be long gone from your television screens. FX announced today that it has ordered the Sons of Anarchy creator’s new show The Bastard Executioner to series, with the 10-episode first season slated to debut on the network this fall. The series puts Sutter in period drama territory, as it tells the story of a warrior knight in King Edward I’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again, he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all.

Newcomer Lee Jones, True Blood actor Stephen Moyer, and SOA alum/Sutter’s wife Katey Segal lead the show, with Sutter also taking on a role. The series regular cast also includes Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy, Sarah White, Sarah Sweeney, Elen Rhys, and Ethan Griffiths, with The Americans star (and outstanding actor) Matthew Rhys set in a guest starring capacity,

For his part, Sutter is highly enthused about the project:

“I love history. I love theology. I love blood. It’s been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast — Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer, Lee Jones — this world explodes on screen.”

Longtime SOA veteran and renowned TV director Paris Barclay helmed the pilot in Wales, and per FX’s press release, production on the first season will resume there this summer, so this show also puts Sutter abroad. Here’s to outstanding production value! Check out the first image below.
