‘The Conjuring 2’ Featurette Explores the Strange Happenings in Enfield

     May 14, 2016

Warner Bros’ 2013 horror film The Conjuring was a surprise hit that earned over $318 million worldwide on a relatively modest budget. The studio is hoping to scare up a similar result with The Conjuring 2, which explores another chapter in the true-life story of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return to play the married couple as they investigate the strange happenings in the north London town of Enfield.

Writer-director James Wan and screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes return, along with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson, to explore this harrowing tale. Rather than releasing the usual trailer or clip, this bit of marketing features the actual people affected by the strange happenings that would come to be blamed on the Enfield Poltergeist. It’s a similar tactic to marketing from other films of a similar sort, but it certainly makes the viewing experience a bit more uneasy. However, I’m still hoping that Wan has kept some of the more charming moments–like the clapping game from the first film–out of the marketing and in the movie.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Conjuring 2:

The supernatural thriller brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
