Rumor: ‘The Flash’ Movie Will Feature an Armored, Tech-Based Costume

     October 9, 2015

The DC universe is rapidly expending. While the DC TV series like The Flash and Arrow are currently dominating the non-Netflix realm of Superhero programming, the DC cinematic branch is about to launch their own full-scale shared universe with Zach Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. In cases like The Flash, where the TV universe will exist alongside the cinematic one, a unique challenge presents itself. How do you make the two distinct for viewers?

No doubt, one of the key ways to separate the different franchises is through costuming and imagery, so it makes sense that the folks at DC are hard at work on a design. A report at Den of Geek states that the costume is being intentionally designed to avoid comparisons to the burgundy leather suit donned by Grant Gustin on the hit CW series. Instead, they’re looking at a “tech-based” design, which would fit with rumors that Ezra Miller‘s Flash is a “tech geek” — a quality that would go hand in hand with his day job as a forensic scientist.

Referring to the Flash costume seen in the game Injustice: Gods Among Us, the report also notes that The Flash movie costume is going for an armored look. That certainly fits in with the aesthetic they’ve determined for their heroes so far, which make other super suits look downright flimsy in comparison to their hard, texturized look. Hell, just yesterday Matt noted that the rubber on Batman’s suit in the latest image from Batman v Superman is so vulcanized, he looks like he rolled right of out the tire section at Home Depot. Superman’s costume is forged out of similarly rough looking material — as opposed to the shiny spandex of yesteryear, Likewise, both Wonder Woman and Aquaman, while a bit underdressed for battle, don armored plating.
