First it was The Rock vs. an Earthquake, now The Rock will battle giant animal creatures. Are you not entertained?? It’s being reported that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to re-team with New Line and producer Beau Flynn for a movie based on the 80s Midway Arcade Game Rampage (the rights of which are owned by New Line’s sister company Warner Bros.) The live action film is tentatively slated for a 2016 summer production start.
According to Deadline, plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the Rampage game involves three giant monsters (a gorilla, a lizard, and a wolf), that terrorize major cities all over North America. Presumably, Johnson will put a stop to all of that.
Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) will pen the script, although a director has yet to be attached. Johnson is currently starring in the frothy and fun HBO series Ballers, and the production of this new film will have to come after he wraps on Fast & Furious 8, as well as Central Intelligence (also for New Line). The Johnson / Flynn partnership has been a profitable one for New Line so far, and unlike the world Johnson tries to save in their movies, that aspect doesn’t seem to be in any danger.
