See What Thor Was Doing During ‘Civil War’ in Hilarious Bonus Feature

     August 28, 2016

At Comic-Con this past July, folks were raving about a video that was shown during the Marvel panel that “revealed” what Chris Hemsworth’s Thor was up to during the events of Captain America: Civil War. The video was directed by Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi and was reportedly very funny, and now you can be the judge yourself, as Marvel has released the video online in its entirety. “Team Thor” is available as a bonus feature on the upcoming Captain America: Civil War Blu-ray, and those Comic-Con folks weren’t kidding—it’s funny!

The video is a short mockumentary shot in the style of The Office or Waititi’s fantastic vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows, as it shows Thor simply hanging around in Australia, feeling sad that no one has called him to come and join the Civil War fight. There are a number of really funny touches here and there that I wouldn’t dare spoil, but Hemsworth has certainly shown his comedy chops previously in Vacation and this summer’s Ghostbusters, and it definitely seems like he and Waititi are a swell fit.

I am mighty curious to see what tone Thor: Ragnarok settles on. Waititi is best known as a director of comedies, but his 2016 adventure pic Hunt for the Wilderpeople is much wider in scope with some great moments of drama scattered throughout, and it definitely maintains the precise timing of Waititi’s other features. Ragnarok has to deal with matters of great importance, sure, but if you look at that cast—Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo—there are some really great comedic performers there, so here’s hoping Waititi captures that at least somewhat onscreen.

Check out the “Team Thor” video below. Captain America: Civil War is available on Digital HD on September 2nd and on Blu-ray and DVD on September 13th. Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
