TIFF 2016 Review Roundup: The Best and Worst of This Year’s Festival

     September 19, 2016

The 2016 Toronto International Film Festival is in the books. Every year, films I see at TIFF end up on my Top 10 list, and this year was no different. I can’t wait for everyone else to see La La Land, Moonlight, ArrivalNocturnal Animals, and more so I can start talking about these films more openly. There were so many great films to see, and even more that I couldn’t find time to squeeze into my schedule, and I hope to catch them at a later date.

It will be interesting to see how these films catch on when they’re released to the public.  I can see La La Land, Queen of Katwe, and some others becoming big hits, but I’m very curious to see if Moonlight can find an audience or if Nocturnal Animals is too off-putting for some people.  TIFF is the beginning of these campaigns, and I’m eager to see what happens to these movies.

arrival-poster-china-shanghaiWe were posting reviews throughout TIFF, but in case you missed them, you can check them out below. I’ve also included links to Brian Formo’s reviews from Telluride for movies that also played at TIFF. Check out the full list of links below.  Also, click here for all of our TIFF 2016 coverage, which includes interviews Steve Weintraub conducted during the festival.  We’ll have plenty more of these interviews in the days ahead.
