September 10, 2010

Pardon the very brief intro but I have only a few moments before I need to run off to see the premiere of James Gunn’s Super.

Just a few minutes ago I recorded a video blog with Peter from Slashfilm after watching writer/directors Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden (Half Nelson, Sugar) new movie It’s Kind of a Funny Story.  The film stars Keir Gilchrist, Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts and it’s about a stressed out teenager who decides to check himself into an institution after thinking he might kill himself.  Once inside, he begins to see things differently with the help of Galifianakis’ character and Emma Roberts.

Here’s the video blog and further down is the full synopsis:

The New York City-set comedy-drama It’s Kind of a Funny Story will world-premiere at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday, September 11th and be released by Focus Features in select cities on Friday, September 24th.
16-year-old Craig (Keir Gilchrist of United States of Tara), stressed out from the demands of being a teenager, checks himself into a mental health clinic. There he learns that the youth ward is closed – and finds himself stuck in the adult ward. One of the patients, Bobby (Zach Galifianakis of The Hangover), soon becomes both Craig’s mentor and protégé. Craig is also drawn to another 16-year-old, Noelle (Emma Roberts of Valentine’s Day). With a minimum five days’ stay imposed on him, Craig is sustained by friendships on both the inside and the outside as he learns more about life, love, and the pressures of growing up.
Written and directed by Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden (Half Nelson, Sugar), It’s Kind of a Funny Story is based on the novel by Ned Vizzini. The executive producers are Jeremy Kipp Walker, Michael Maher, Peter Rawlinson, and Patrick Baker. The producers are Kevin Misher and Ben Browning. Also in the cast are Academy Award nominee Viola Davis (Doubt), Lauren Graham (Parenthood), Jim Gaffigan (Away We Go), and Zoë Kravitz (the upcoming Mad Max).
