top-5-sliceAvailable on Blu-ray/DVD/virtually every other format you can imagine watching a movie on this coming Tuesday is Amy Schumer and Judd Apatow‘s comedy Trainwreck. The film hit theaters back in July and it’s easily holding strong as one of my favorite movies of the year and the best Apatow pic since The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Schumer is right at home in the semi-autobiographical tale and with it she cements herself as one of the most talented comics working today.

Clearly, I think there is a lot to like about Trainwreck. Having just rewatched it, though, the aspect that stood out to me the most is its emotional/dramatic beats. I expect the film to be funny and it absolutely is. That said, I’m surprised by how touching it is as well. The relationship between Schumer and her father and sister (featuring great turns by Colin Quinn and Brie Larson respectively) is not just convincing, it’s downright moving at times. The genuine self-awareness and vulnerability in Schumer’s script gives Trainwreck weight beyond that of just another summer comedy even if her sense of humor isn’t your cup of tea.

This week’s recommendation in hand, let’s get to our Top 5 so you can move on with your day:
