It’s been about a year since the first season of True Detective hit HBO and everyone unanimously seemed incapable of watching or talking about anything else on television at the time. The buzz off the show was so strong that since the announcement of a second season of the show, with a totally new cast and new directors, viewers have obsessed over every little morsel of information that’s been released about the Colin Farrell–Rachel McAdams starring second season. Well, here’s the payoff: HBO just released a hugely intriguing teaser for True Detective Season 2, along with a number of stills from the upcoming series, slated to return to HBO in early summer.
The press release for the new season explains the story as such:
A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.
This amps up anticipation for True Detective Season 2 immeasurably, and news that Justin Lin, a Fast & Furious veteran, is helming the first two episodes of the season suggests that the show will still have the nifty visuals that helped propel the first season to the top of everyone’s must-watch list.
True Detective Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, June 21st at 10 p.m. Watch the teaser and check out other stills below:
