TV Call Casting: Robert Englund Scares CHUCK, Ashmore Brothers Join FRINGE, Aquaman Returns to SMALLVILLE, and Katee Sackhoff Guests on CSI

     September 8, 2010

Here’s a quartet of TV casting updates coming right at ya. First up, EW has word that Robert Englund, the man behind the original Freddy Krueger, has signed on as a guest star on the forthcoming season of Chuck. The episode titled Chuck vs the Aisle of Terror is set to appropriately air around Halloween with Englund playing Dr Stanley Wheelwright, an evil scientist who can make your waking life a nightmare. Shouldn’t too difficult of a role for Englund to step into, and the content certainly allows plenty of opportunities for homage and jokes. Englund joins a whole slew of guest stars in Chuck’s fourth season including Linda Hamilton, Timothy Dalton, Eric Roberts, Lou Ferrigno, Dolph Lundgren and more.

Hit the jump for more casting news on Fringe, Smallville and CSI.

On the science fiction front, Show Patrol reports twin brothers Shawn Ashmore (Iceman from X-Men, X2, and X-Men The Last Stand) and Aaron Ashmore (who played Jimmy Olsen on Smallville) will be playing alternate versions of each other on the upcoming third season of Fringe. Details on the twins’ characters are scarce, but apparently there’s plenty of action in store for both of them. With Lost finished, Fringe will do a fine job fulfilling my need for a mysterious science fiction serial.

Meanwhile, over in Smallville, a familiar hero will be returning for the comic book series’ tenth and final season. Entertainment Weekly has discovered Alan Ritchson will reprise his role as Arthur “AC” Curry, or Aquaman, in the ninth episode of the season during the November sweeps. The last time Aquaman showed up on the series saw his secret identity being discovered by LuthorCorp. Ritchson will be joined by other returning guest stars like Laura Vandervoort (Supergirl) and John Glover (Lionel Luthor) for what promises to be an epic end to Smallville.

Finally, EW also has word on Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff finally taking a job at CSI. Over three years ago, the actress was in contention to replace Jorja Fox on the crime series, but that deal never came through. Now Sackhoff finds herself on the series in a potentially recurring role as Detective Reed, a smart, tough, and feisty investigator with an acknowledged lack of sensitivity. Her first appearance is slated to air sometime in November (likely during sweeps). Though she’s spent plenty of time in space, her turn on Fox’s 24 has been a nice transition to real-world law enforcement.
