Tyler Perry Sets SINGLE MOMS CLUB for Next Project; Lionsgate in Talks to Distribute

     October 16, 2012

Tyler Perry will debut in Alex Cross this weekend (click here for a recent interview with Perry), taking over for Morgan Freeman in the latest James Patterson adaptation, but that doesn’t mean the multihyphenate is taking time off.  Perry will next turn his focus to Single Moms Club, which he will write/direct/produce and star in.  The picture unites four single mothers from different backgrounds via an inciting event at their children’s school.  The bonds of their resulting support group help them find humor in everyday obstacles along with the strength to overcome them.  Lionsgate is reportedly in final negotiations to distribute the picture.  Hit the jump for more.

Variety reports thattyler-perry-single-moms-club Lionsgate is looking to distribute Perry’s next picture, Single Moms Club.  The studio is in the middle of an extension of its first-look deal with Perry and the two parties have a history dating back to 2005.  It’s worked out well for all involved, as Perry’s films have grossed well north of half-a-billion dollars worldwide and have pushed more than 50 million units on DVD.  Perry’s massive fanbase is sure to play a key role in how successful Alex Cross is this weekend.

Perry recently wrapped on The Marriage Counselor for the studio, a picture he also wrote, directed and produced.  Co-starring Kim Kardashian, The Marriage Counselor is due out March 29th.  Not too long after that, Lionsgate will release the Perry-produced comedy, We the Peeples on May 10th.  Written and directed by Tina Gordon Chism (Drumline), We the Peeples stars Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington and David Alan Grier.
