The first trailer for Angelina Jolie’s next directorial effort Unbroken has landed online by way of an extended Olympics TV spot.  The film tells the incredibly true story of Louis Zamperini, a former Olympian and WWII bombardier whose plane crashed at sea in 1943.  Zamperini and two crewmates floated adrift for 47 days and 2000 miles, eventually finding themselves caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a POW camp where Zamperini was targeted by a sadistic overseer.  The real Zamperini appears in this spot to recount his story as we’re treated to the first footage from Jolie’s impressive-looking feature, which includes cinematography by The Master himself, Roger Deakins.  It’s a brief look at what’s likely unfinished footage, but this inspiring story is sure to be a tear-jerker this holiday season.

Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.  Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.
