Trailer for Jonathan Glazer’s UNDER THE SKIN Starring Scarlett Johansson

     February 11, 2014

Following yesterday’s terrific poster, StudioCanal has released a new trailer for Jonathan Glazer‘s sci-fi film Under the Skin.  The strange story features Scarlett Johansson as an alien whose sexuality lures men into an abyss, but she begins to start questioning her actions as she develops an emotional connection with humans.  That brief synopsis doesn’t do much justice to this cerebral picture, but the trailer does a good job of conveying the off-kilter tone.  It also features blurbs from critics who are ecstatic about the movie; I am not one of them.  One of the blurbs even compares the movie to Kubrick, but I would say a far more apt comparison is 1976’s The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  Under the Skin opens in the U.K. on March 14th.  The film opens in L.A. and New York on April 4th, followed by a limited release on April 11th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Under the Skin:

From visionary director Jonathan Glazer (SEXY BEAST, BIRTH) comes a stunning career transformation, a masterpiece of existential science fiction that journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial — or something in between. A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring this succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair.  They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again. Based on the novel by Michel Faber (The Crimson Petal and the White), UNDER THE SKIN examines human experience from the perspective of an unforgettable heroine who grows too comfortable in her borrowed skin, until she is abducted into humanity with devastating results.
