‘Underworld: Blood Wars’: New Trailer Shows Off Kate Beckinsale’s Powerful Abilities

     October 7, 2016

A new trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars takes great pains to explain the previous four films in the franchise, and just about gives away every plot point in the fifth. For fans who have stuck with this supernatural action series so far, that probably doesn’t matter. The leather-clad action, the battle between vampires and lycans, and the mix of modern mythology are all in good form here, as they have been in the previous films. This new installment adds a wrinkle to Kate Beckinsale‘s character Selene, granting her even more powers.

In Anna Foerster’s directorial debut, Charles Dance returns as the vampire elder Thomas, who also happens to be the father of Selene’s ally, David (Theo James). Newcomers include Tobias Menzies (Outlander) as Maurius “a formidable new Lycan leader,” and Lara Pulver (Da Vinci’s Demons) as Semira “a fiercely ambitious vampire,” along with James Faulkner (Da Vinci’s Demons), Peter Andersson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Bradley James (Merlin), Daisy Head (The Syndicate) as Alexia, and newcomer Clementine Nicholson as Lena. Look for the new film to bow on January 6, 2017.

Here’s the official synopsis for Underworld: Blood Wars:

The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.
