Yesterday at CinemaCon, Fox showed the first Victor Frankenstein footage to attendees, and today, a couple of behind the scenes images have landed online. Directed by Paul McGuigan (Sherlock) and written by Max Landis (Chronicle), the latest take on Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale stars James McAvoy as the eponymous mad scientist and Daniel Radcliffe has his famous assistant.
“As much as the monster is his creation, Igor is his creation as well,” McAvoy explained to Empire Magazine on set. “That was quite exciting. It’s funny, the script, but also really dark, in a cool way.”
While I think it’s easy to get worn out on Frankenstein, I’m more excited for this than I am for something like I, Frankenstein or whatever crossover nonsense Universal is planning for their creatures. The monster is important, but so is Victor Frankenstein, and I’m interested to see how this film approaches him and his hubris.
Check out the Victor Frankenstein images below. The film opens October 2nd and also stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott, and Freddie Fox.
Here’s the official synopsis for Victor Frankenstein:
When Dr. Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy) and his trusted assistant Igor (Daniel Radcliffe) go too far in their noble attempts to aid humanity, Victor’s obsession turns to madness. He then unleashes his final creation –a monstrous figure that holds unimaginable terror for anyone its path.
