Vin Diesel has been heavily indicating for months that he’s going to have a place in the Marvel Movie Universe, and speculation has been around him getting the role of Vision or Thanos. Last month at Comic-Con, he said to expect some Marvel news at the end of the month. We’re now in mid-August, and Diesel, unable to help himself, may have just decided to go ahead and spill the beans anyway. On his surprisingly popular Facebook page (he has over 45 million likes, and I’m sure all of those people will be buying tickets to Riddick), Diesel changed his cover photo to the Guardians of the Galaxy team member, Groot [thanks to Badass Digest for the heads-up]. Groot, for those who don’t know, is a giant, walking, talking tree, who usually only says his name. Diesel gets lifetime voice acting cred because of his work in The Iron Giant, so at least there’s that.
While it would have been a good time to announce Diesel’s casting at D23 this weekend, it’s possible the contracts weren’t signed yet. Diesel has changed his cover photo again, and deleted any evidence that he posted the Groot photo except he forgot to scrub it from the entire Internet. Of course, this could all be classic Marvel misdirection. Huzzah. Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1, 2014. [Update: Deadline confirms that Diesel is in talks for the role.]
