‘Voyage of Time’: New Trailer Teases 90-Minute Cut of Terrence Malick’s Trip Through the Universe

     August 19, 2016

It’s taking a large chunk of the last century, and the first decade or so of this one, to get Terrence Malick‘s vision of the universe’s birth and life, Voyage of Time, into theaters. From the look of what we’ve seen thus far, it’ll be well worth the wait when his film hits screens this fall, after a much-hyped debut at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. From the outset, the film looks to one-up naturalist essay films like Baraka, but knowing Malick, there’s sure to be a more potent spiritual side to his latest film, which will serve as his follow-up to this year’s sublime Knight of Cups.

As has been suggested before, there will be two separate cuts of the film, and the latest trailer for Voyage of Time teases the shorter cut, which is apparently titled Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey. For the most part, things look exactly like they did in the previous trailers, but that doesn’s soften the impact of what Malick looks to have gathered here. You can check out the new trailer right below, and you’ll be able to see the film starting on October 7th.

Here’s the trailer for the 90-minute cut of Voyage of Time:

Here’s the official synopsis about Voyage of Time:

Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience is a one-of-a-kind celebration of life and the grand history of the cosmos, transporting audiences into a vast yet up-close and personal journey that spans the eons from the Big Bang to the dinosaur age to our present human world… and beyond. A labor of love from one of American cinema’s most acclaimed and visually exciting filmmakers, Terrence Malick (The Thin Red LineThe Tree of Life), Voyage ofTime has been nearly four decades in the making and represents the filmmaker’s first foray into documentary storytelling. The film’s panorama of awe-inspiring images will take you into the heart of monumental events never witnessed — from the birth of the stars and galaxies to the explosion of diverse life-forms on planet earth, including humankind — in immersive new ways that only IMAX can deliver. This is a cosmic experience — a hymn to the glories of nature, life and scientific discovery — in which all the elements come together to form Malick’s most original film to date.
