Limited Paper: Several Prints from the WE BUY YOUR KIDS Show at the Mondo Gallery Dropping Tomorrow

     December 3, 2012

Over the weekend, we brought you some exclusive video from Tina’s Mom’s Boyfriend, the latest (and, for 2012, the last) show at the Mondo Gallery in downtown Austin, TX.  The event—composed entirely of prints and wall-murals painted by the Australian duo known as We Buy Your Kids—was the strangest, most divisive show to hit the Mondo Gallery yet, an explosion of bizarro posters that’s been the subject of debate amongst poster collectors ever since.

And now it appears that Mondo isn’t wasting any time putting some of these prints into the hands of interested buyers:  tomorrow morning, a select number of prints from that show will be dropping online via the Mondo store.  Wanna find out which posters are dropping, how much they’ll set ya back, and which one can be purchased in t-shirt form?  Meet me after the jump, folks.

If you missed my writeup over the weekend, here’s a quick recap:  on Friday evening, the Mondo Gallery opened Tina’s Mom’s Boyfriend, its latest—and, for 2012, its last—showcase.  The entire show was produced by the Australian duo known as We Buy Your Kids, and (as you can see in the pics below) the artwork itself made for what was probably the strangest, most divisive show yet held at the Mondo Gallery.  People either loved or…well, I haven’t spoken to anyone who said they “hated” this particular show; perhaps the best word to use here would be “confused”.

Yes, that’s fair:  people either loved or were confused by the Mondo Gallery’s latest event, and—from where we’re standing, anyway—that’s never a bad thing.  Really good art’s only “bad” when it’s boring, uninspired, or obvious…and Tina’s Mom’s Boyfriend was anything but.  And if you were one of the Mondo faithful who dug this show but couldn’t be in town for it, I’ve got good news:  tomorrow morning, Mondo will release (what we’re assuming is) the first batch of prints from that show via their online store.  Here’s what’s dropping, and how much it’ll cost:

  • Beetlejuice by We Buy Your Kids
  • 18×24”
  • $35 regular edition of 125

  • Deep Red by We Buy Your Kids
  • 18×24”
  • $35 regular edition of 120

  • Nightmare on Elm Street by We Buy Your Kids
  • 18×24”
  • $35 regular edition of 115

  • Conan by We Buy Your Kids
  • 18×24”
  • $35 regular edition of 150

  • Conan The Barbarian by We Buy Your Kids
  • T-Shirt (Various Sizes)
  • $25

Now, if you head on over to the Mondo blog you can see some detailed photos of these from the Gallery show.  As you can see, these prints are wholly unique, unlike virtually anything else that Mondo’s released lately.  I’m still particular to their Poltergeist print, but who knows if that one’s still available?  At 75 copies, it’ll end up being the hardest-to-obtain from this show once it’s sold out, so if there are copies available and you dug that print as much as I did, be prepared to exercise your most lethal PayPal-fu skills when it does drop.

Speaking of which:  as always, we’ll keep you informed as to when the other prints from this show will drop (my guess is that they’re going for a double-drop this week, seeing as how we’re getting a Tuesday drop), so stay tuned for updates as they become available.  Stay tuned for that, as well as our other weekly updates in the near future (wonder if we’ll see another round of these prints dropping on Thursday…or something else?  Or both?).

In the meantime, if you’re an artist or gallery with artwork you’d like to see featured on Limited Paper (or if you’re just some lucky bastard who happened to overhear a bit of poster-related gossip while standing in the bushes outside Martin Ansin’s house) we wanna hear from you!  Email Limited Paper directly at, and be sure that you’re following us on Twitter via @LimitedPaper for ongoing commentary, news updates, giveaways, and more!
