Weekly TV Ratings: GAME OF THRONES Makes Huge Gains, HANNIBAL Premieres Low

     June 5, 2015

The TV ratings for the week of Sunday, May 31st through Thursday, June 4th are in; here are some of the highlights:

  • I usually don’t cover cable ratings, but this was definitely worth noting: Sunday night on HBO, Game of Thrones not only continued to dominate, but leapt up almost a full point from last week’s ratings, to a 3.4 in the key 18-49 demographic, and 7 million viewers. And “Hardhome” deserved it, too.
  • Back on broadcast, ABC’s The Bachelorette jumped back up three tenths this week to a respectable 1.9 rating and 6.46 million viewers on Monday night at 8 p.m.

At 10 p.m. on ABC, the series premiere of The Whispers started off ok, with a 1.5 rating and 5.75 million viewers. Those numbers, plus The Bachelorette, gave ABC the win overall for the night.

  • On Fox, the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance was down four tenths from last season’s premiere, to a 1.2 rating and 3.93 million viewers at 8 p.m., also on Monday.

  • Tuesday, America’s Got Talent on NBC dropped two tenths to a 2.4 rating and 10.7 million viewers, resoundingly beating Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader’s 0.7 rating and 2.9 million viewers in the same slot, and winning NBC the night overall.
  • On the CW, iZombie continues to stay steady with a 0.6 rating and 1.75 million viewers at 9 p.m.
  • Wednesday night, competition shows were all steady or down: MasterChef on Fox at 8 p.m. pulled a 1.4 rating and 4.6 million viewers, The Briefcase on CBS was down half a point to a 0.9 rating and 5.39 million viewers, Bullseye at 9 p.m. on Fox was steady with a 1.1 rating and 3.34 million viewers, while Celebrity Wife Swap on ABC dipped a tenth at 10 p.m. to a 1.0 and 3.51 million viewers.

Thursday, the only night with an array of scripted series right now, saw Bones dropping a tenth to a 1.1 rating and 5.12 million viewers at 8 p.m. The same was true for its Fox sister series Wayward Pines, which was down a tenth to a 1.1 and 4.2 million viewers.

  • Aquarius on NBC dropped four tenths to a 0.7 rating and 3.92 million viewers at 9 p.m. It’s hard to tell if that’s from lack of interest, or because people have already watched it online now.
  • And the best for last — the best show, that is, though not the best ratings news: Hannibal’s Season 3 premiere saw it match its series low, with a 0.7 rating and 2.68 million viewers at 10 p.m. I have a feeling it will pick up some numbers in the delayed viewing figures, but, start the prayer circle.
