Weekly TV Ratings: ‘True Detective’ Finale Up, ‘Hannibal’ Flat

The weekly TV ratings from Saturday, August 8th to Thursday, August 13th are in; here are some of the highlights. (Daily ratings are on hiatus during the summer).

  • Kicking off with last Saturday, Hannibal stayed flat with a 0.3 rating and 1.07 million viewers in the key 18-49 demographic, which ties its series low at 10 p.m. Aquarius managed to find a little life at 9 p.m., pulling a 0.3 rating and 1.28 million viewers, up a point from last week’s series low.
  • True Detective’s finale Sunday night on HBO at 9 p.m. saw a surge in its live numbers (up half a million to 2.73 million viewers), but still down sharply from last year’s finale (3.52 million viewers) — even though overall the live weekly numbers improved from last year. But, the first season still wins with episodic viewers overall (11.9 million vs 11.3 million).

    The recently renewed Rick and Morty is doing very well for Adult Swim at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night, pulling 1.94 million viewers. It may not seem like much, but it finished 6th in the cable ratings for the night — not shabby at all.

  • Monday night, Bachelor in Paradise on ABC rose to a 1.5 rating and 5.01 million viewers, but (the recently renewed) American Ninja Warrior on NBC at 8 p.m. won the timeslot with its 2.0 rating and 7 million viewers.
  • As for the scripted series of the night, The Whispers was down to a series low 0.6 rating and 2.69 million viewers at 10 p.m. on ABC, while the egregiously awful Significant Mother on the CW stayed steady with a 0.3 rating and 0.81 million viewers earlier at 9:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, America’s Got Talent won the night for NBC with a 2.5 rating and 11.18 million viewers at 8 p.m., up three tenths from last week’s numbers. On the scripted side, Zoo bumped up a notch to a 1.1 rating and 6.68 million viewers.

    On Wednesday, the Mr. Robinson hit a tepid 1.0 rating and 4.45 million viewers at both 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on NBC, matching last week’s second episode numbers. Extant on CBS at 9 p.m. continues to struggle with a 0.7 rating and 4.48 million viewers.

  • And ending things with a fizzle … preseason football preemptions Thursday night artificially inflated all of the ratings numbers, rendering them useless. We’ll report on any major effects in next week’s roundup, if there are any worthwhile adjustments!
