Last Sunday’s Westworld introduced the wonderfully talented Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok) to the HBO sci-fi series, and she’s sticking around for a while. Thompson’s Charlotte Hale is scheduled to appear on the episodes leading up to Episode 10, “Bicameral Mind,” but we see her scheming behind the scenes in a the first batch of photos from this weekend’s “Trompe L’Oeil,” directed by Frederick E.O. Toye (the same guy who helmed last week’s “The Adversary”) and written by series co-creator Jonathan Nolan and Halley Gross.
The episode’s name comes from the phrase that refers to an illusion in visual art that tricks the eye into perceiving the image as a three-dimensional object. While you chew on that, the images see Charlotte in the glass chambers behind the scenes of Westworld. Comparing it to the teaser for the episode, it seems like she’s speaking with Theresa (Sidse Babett Knudsen) as they plot behind Ford’s (Anthony Hopkins’) back. “We need to demonstrate how dangerous Ford’s creations can be,” she says in the preview.
We also see a group of workers coming into investigate the hosts in the saloon. Considering the preview, it seems they all assume the hosts to be frozen, but Maeve (Thandie Newton) is ready to strike against her tormentors. Elsewhere, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and William (Jimmi Simpson) continue their path, Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) has a confrontation with Theresa, and Ford is examining Clementine (Angela Sarafyan) with two other men seen in the reflection of the glass walls.
Westworld’s “Trompe L’Oeil” will air on HBO this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST. Check out the trailer and the official description for the episode below:
