20th Century Fox has tapped Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) to direct the adventure picture The City That Sailed, now officially starring Will Smith (Independence Day).  Scripted by Audrey Wells (The Game Plan), the story “centers on a father and daughter on the island of Manhattan as it breaks loose and sails across the Atlantic Ocean.”  With Smith as the father, I’ll give you three guesses on who will likely play the daughter.  Hit the jump for more.

will-smithDeadline reports that Levy and Smith are both on board for The City That Sailed.  Smith’s name has been attached to this project since he wrapped on Men in Black 3, but now he’s officially on board.  There’s no current information as to how this news affects Smith’s schedule for a possible return to the Independence Day sequel, but since that film’s release date was pushed back a year, perhaps there’s still a chance.  The latest news on Smith has him circling the supernatural thriller Selling Time for 20th Century Fox.  He’s also set to star opposite Margot Robbie in Focus and is attached to a reboot of The Wild Bunch.

Levy has wanted to work with Smith for some time, going back to at least two years ago when the director dropped the Fantastic Voyage remake when the A-list star passed on the picture.  Levy and Fox are prepping for a start of production on Night at the Museum 3 early next year.  The London-centric story features Robin Williams and Dan Stevens, with Ben Stiller expected to return in the starring role.
