Watch: Hugh Jackman Celebrates the End of ‘Wolverine 3’ Filming with a Nice Shave

     August 22, 2016

Much like Lin-Manuel Miranda chopping off his Hamilcut upon finishing up his Hamilton run on Broadway, Hugh Jackman celebrated the end of filming on the next Wolverine movie with a good old-fashioned shave. The actor posted video of himself ridding himself of the mutton chops, saying, “My wife will be very happy.”

With the arrival of the untitled Wolverine 3, Jackman will have appeared as the adamantium-clawed mutant a total of nine times. It’s a streak that began with 2000’s X-Men, continued through pop-ins for First Class and Apocalypse, and will cap with James Mangold’s sequel to The Wolverine. Jackman announced in March of last year that he’d retire his role after this final chapter, and he later appeared on stage at Comic-Con 2015 during the Fox panel to help fans say goodbye.

A Fox rep confirmed to Collider that principal photography has officially wrapped on Wolverine 3, so that means it’s time to prepare for the end of a legacy. Watch Jackman’s video below:

Plot details on Wolverine 3 have been kept under wraps, but Jackman and Co. have been teasing an adaptation of the Old Man Logan comic book story line, which sees an older version of Logan traversing an apocalyptic world. Leaked set photos, as well as imagery from Jackman’s adventures in New Mexico, seem to support that setting. Meanwhile, the post-credits scene for X-Men: Apocalypse revealed a tease for Mr. Sinister, though it’s unclear if he’ll factor in this film.

Patrick Stewart will reprise his role of Professor Xavier for Wolverine 3 (for the last time) while the cast also includes Elizabeth Rodriguez, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, and Doris Morgado, among others. Producer Simon Kinberg said the film will be rated R, “violent,” and “like a Western in its tone.”

The film is currently scheduled for release on March 3, 2017.
