Zoe Saldana has joined the cast of the graphic novel adaptation I Kill Giants. Anders Walter, who won an Academy Award in 2014 for his short film Helium, is on board to direct the project with Chris Columbus (Pixels, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) set to produce alongside Justin Nappi (All Is Lost) and Kim Magnusson (Adam’s Apples), and XYZ films.
Based on Joe Kelly‘s critically acclaimed graphic novel of the same name, the story follows Barbara, a misfit young girl who battles both real and imaginary monsters. Saldana will play a key role as Barbara’s school psychologist Mrs. Mollé, who forms an inspiring bond with the young girl as she helps her confront her internal and external threats.
Following a nationwide search of over 500 young actresses, Madison Wolfe, who appeared in the first season of True Detective, and will next be seen in David O. Russell‘s Joy, landed the lead role as Barbara. In a press release, Columbus said, “Madison is an extraordinary young actress and we are thrilled to have her join the cast.”
“I’m thrilled to have the massively talented Zoe helping us bring Joe Kelly’s beautiful story to life,” said Walter. “I couldn’t be more excited to see Mrs. Mollé, a kind, strong and incredibly inspirational character up on the big screen.”
Production on I Kill Giants is set to being in early 2016.
